Common Safety Orientation (CSO) Practice Test

The choice to leave the lock or tag alone is the correct approach because locks and tags are part of a safety protocol known as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO). This procedure is designed to prevent accidental energization of machinery or electrical devices during maintenance or repairs.

When a lock or tag is applied to a device, it indicates that the equipment is unsafe to operate or is undergoing maintenance, ensuring that no one can inadvertently turn it on and potentially cause harm to themselves or others. Therefore, respecting these safety measures by not tampering with them underscores the importance of workplace safety and compliance with safety regulations.

Taking any action to remove the lock (as suggested in one of the other choices) disregards the purpose of these safety precautions and can lead to dangerous situations. Ignoring the lock or tag can put individuals at risk by misunderstanding the significance of the warnings. Contacting a technician might seem prudent, but it is more effective and safe to adhere to established safety protocols and let qualified personnel manage such situations appropriately.
